The Spaniards Roberto Bou and Miguel Muñoz, along with the Chilean Sebastián Gesche, will make their debut at the Gran Canaria event, which is part of the UCI S2 category

Bou and Muñoz have achieved top 5 positions in several stages of the Cape Epic in South Africa, the most prestigious race in the XCM calendar

Gesche won bronze in the last Pan American Games and is the current XCM champion of Chile

Roberto Bou, Sebastián Gesche, and Miguel Muñoz, the spearheads of the Klimatiza Toteemi Cabberty team, will make their debut at the upcoming Fred.Olsen Express Transgrancanaria Bike, a qualifying event in the UCI S2 category, which will hold its ninth edition from May 16th to 19th.

The Andalusian team, founded in 2023, has made a strong commitment this year by adding three prominent international cyclists to its roster: Spaniards Roberto Bou and Miguel Muñoz, and Chilean Sebastián Gesche. Without a doubt, Roberto Bou stands out as one of the most outstanding athletes in the Cross Country Marathon (XCM) discipline. Bou boasts prestigious victories such as the Titan Desert in Morocco in 2023, the MB Race in 2019, and has been crowned the Spanish XC Ultramarathon champion twice. Alongside Miguel Muñoz, he has competed in the Cape Epic in South Africa, considered the most prestigious mountain biking race on the planet, where they have been top 5 several times in stages. In 2023, they achieved sixth position overall, while in 2024 they finished thirteenth.

“The people who follow me have talked to me about the event, and I was eager to go last year. If it has managed to be on the UCI calendar, it’s because there’s great work behind it,” acknowledges Bou, who will make his debut on the island. “I know Gran Canaria, but not so much the race. I’m nervous because I don’t know whether to bring a hardtail or a full suspension bike. People who have raced tell me to use the hardtail, but I think the full suspension adapts well…”, admits the Aragonese cyclist, who sets his season goal as “being among the best cyclists in the world,” which he is already achieving as he currently ranks 26th in the UCI classification.

On the other hand, Miguel Muñoz, ranked in the top 50 in the UCI ranking, has been Spanish XCM runner-up three times and has achieved prestigious victories such as the fourth stage of the Titan Desert in Morocco in 2021 or the two stage wins in the Titan Desert of Almería in 2023. Likewise, alongside Roberto Bou, he also placed fourth in the Andalucía Bike Race in 2023 and eighth in 2024.

The cyclist from Malaga explains that the first part of the year “has exceeded the initial expectations” of the season. “I’m performing at a good level this year, and above all, I had a surprise in the first race of the season, the Leyenda de Tartessos, where I managed to finish third overall against tough competitors.” Regarding the Klimatiza Toteemi Cabberty team, he highlights that “finally, there is a professional Andalusian XCM team” and that it is “a great professional project.”

As for his first participation in the Fred.Olsen Express Transgrancanaria Bike, he expects a “demanding race with significant climbs that will surely shape the outcome of the event.” “My goal is, as in any other race, to win. It’s a great test that will help me continue to progress in my form for what’s still to come in the season,” he concludes.

Finally, Sebastián Gesche is a Chilean cyclist ranked in the top 30 in the UCI international classification. At 25 years old, he was crowned the XCM champion of Chile in 2023 and won bronze in this category at the Pan American Games held in Colombia, as well as winning the XCM Arica, an S2 event on the UCI calendar.

The Fred.Olsen Express Transgrancanaria Bike, organized by Arista Eventos, is sponsored primarily by Fred. Olsen Express. Additionally, it receives support from the Gran Canaria Island Council through the Gran Canaria Tourism and Insular Sports Institute, as well as from the Government of the Canary Islands with Canary Islands Latitude of Life. The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council and Maspalomas Costa Canaria also provide their support. Likewise, the race is supported by companies 226ERS, Vivac Aventura, Gobik, Emicela, Lorenzo González Automoción, Gofio La Piña, Provital, and Inetel.
