Tessa Kortekaas (Voorhout, Netherlands, 1988) made her debut last year at the Fred. Olsen Express Transgrancanaria Bike with an outstanding second place in the general classification and a stage win. The Dutch cyclist based in Lanzarote will try to climb the highest step of the podium in this eleventh edition of a race that starts next Thursday, May 15th in the south of Gran Canaria.
Kortekaas accumulated 18 stage wins in her professional career and was XCM Spanish Champion in the 2024 event in Lalín (Pontevedra). She is currently ranked 10th in the UCI rankings with 770 points, where just last year she reached her best position in the ranking, climbing up to seventh place.
The Cannondale ISB Sport team rider has accumulated prestigious victories in races such as Brasil Ride Bahia (2023 and 2024) and Swiss Epic (2024). Likewise, last year he dominated the Titan Series 2024, where he holds the record of victories, winning the three circuits of Titan Desert Morocco, Titan Desert Almeria and Titan Desert Neom. He also won the national XCM championship in 2024, where he was bronze medallist the previous year.
Her 2025 has started in an outstanding way with victories in Club La Santa 4 Stage MTB Lanzarote, Andalucía Bike Race by Garmin and in 4Islands Epic, these last two events together with her teammate Mónica Calderón.The Dutch biker also tried her hand at triathlon before, where she even won the Ironman Malaysia (2019).
Close to the triumph in the Fred. Olsen Express Transgrancanaria Bike 2024
Kortekaas made her debut in the Gran Canaria race last year, where she was overall leader until the start of the last stage, finishing in second place less than eight minutes behind the winner Rosa van Doorn (Buff Megamo Team). After climbing the podium as runner-up, the Cannondale ISB Sport rider said she had ‘really enjoyed the race’ and was ‘happy’ with the result obtained in the Gran Canaria event. ‘Next year I’ll be back’, she said at the time. One year later, Tessa Kortekaas kept her word and will take part in the tenth edition of the Fred. Olsen Express Transgrancanaria Bike in search of her first victory.
