Both leaders delivered a commanding performance in the stage finishing at Ayagaures

Montserrat Pereira and Blas Rivero also retain the Canarian leader’s jersey

This Saturday marks the debut of the XCO stage, featuring a six-lap circuit

Second Day of the Fred. Olsen Express Transgrancanaria Bike Completed

The individual time trial stage took place this Friday, with riders starting in staggered order based on their position in the general classification. As overall leaders, Tessa Kortekaas (Cannondale ISB) and Hans Becking (Buff Megamo) were the last to set off from Parque Sur, tackling the 23.5-kilometer course that finished at the Ayagaures Dam. Both riders successfully defended their yellow jerseys by clocking the fastest times of the day.

Dutch rider Tessa Kortekaas, based in Lanzarote, delivered a dominant performance in the uphill time trial, finishing a minute and a half ahead of her closest rival, Manuela Muresan — the Romanian rider who resides in Gran Canaria. With this result, Kortekaas extended her lead in the overall standings. The third fastest woman across the line was Ada Xinxó (Trideporte), who repeated her third-place finish from the opening stage with a time of 1:08:42.

After Friday’s stage, Kortekaas continues to wear the yellow jersey with a 4-minute, 17-second lead over Muresan, while Catalan rider Xinxó now sits 11 minutes and 55 seconds back.

Upon her arrival, the race leader commented, “A time trial is always tough because you’re going full throttle, but you have to think about tomorrow.” Regarding her strong results over the first two days, the Dutch rider said, “Last year I finished second, and I was eager to come back to the Transgrancanaria Bike and aim for the win.”

In the men’s category, Becking and Luis Ángel Maté (Marbella CC) started the day with equal times due to the sprint from the opening stage. However, the two-time winner of the race, Becking, delivered nearly a perfect time trial and beat the second-place rider in the general classification by 2:06. The Buff Megamo rider finished the course in under 50 minutes, stopping the clock at 49:29. The third spot on the podium went to his compatriot Wim de Bruin, who had a strong second half of the stage, finishing just 2:55 behind the race leader.

“I’m really happy. I knew how tough the climb was, but it’s beautiful to be up there on the mountain, going full speed on your bike,” Becking said immediately after crossing the finish line. “Tomorrow is something new with the XCO stage. It’s been a long time since I’ve done one, and with so many young riders, I’m sure there will be attacks early on,” predicted the leader of the Fred. Olsen Express Transgrancanaria Bike.

As for the newly introduced Canarian leader’s jersey, Montserrat Pereira and Blas Rivero continue to dominate the standings.
