The Trek-Segafredo rider will make his debut in the Gran Canaria mountain bike race after winning the Vuelta a España.

The connection between road cycling and mountain biking is becoming increasingly visible. Riders, both professionals and amateurs, combine both disciplines to test themselves with the different mounts on both terrains. On this occasion, the Fred. Olsen Express Transgrancanaria Bike will witness the participation of many professionals who have just finished the European tours.

The first to confirm his participation was Juan Pedro López. The young cyclist from Lebrija has established himself as one of the most promising riders on the national scene. At the age of 24, López has finished his second ‘Vuelta a España’ in 13th place overall and as the third best national cyclist, writing his name in capital letters in one of the world’s major events.

The Trek-Segafredo rider finished third in the youth classification of the Vuelta a España 2021, a position that serves as motivation to face the next challenges ahead. One of them will be the vibrant Two Stages modality of the Fred. Olsen Express Transgrancanaria Bike, in November, in which Juan Pedro López will test his skills on the mountain bike with a 120-kilometre route divided into two stages starting in Artenara and finishing in Maspalomas.

It will be Juan Pedro’s debut in the mountains “it’s the first time I’m going to take part in a mountain bike race with a two-day format, I’m excited because it will be a unique experience that has nothing to do with the cycling we’re used to”, says the rider from Lebrija.JuanPe_Trek (2)

The event is sponsored by Fred.Olsen Express, which will once again offer discounts for the transfer of participants moving between islands for the race. Furthermore, the aim of the Transgrancanaria Bike is to consolidate Gran Canaria as a unique place in the world for mountain sports, which is why the support of the Gran Canaria Tourist Board and the Island Sports Institute is very important for the 2021 edition, which is still open for registration through www.transgrancanariabike.com.
